Yvonne Shari O'Brien

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear sister Yvonne. who passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026, at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, Alberta.

Yvonne was known for her warm smile, kind heart, and strong spirit. She never married, but she deeply treasured the time she spent with her family and friends. She had a special gift for making people laugh and feel welcome, and she leaves behind many cherished memories.

Yvonne began working at the age of 16 and worked hard throughout her life. She pursued studies at Devry College  in several areas, including accounting, nursing, and other fields and also studied at Mount Royal University. Over the years, she worked in many places, with Walmart being one of her longest places of employment, where she worked part-time for 26 years. Yvonne was known for her loyalty, dedication, and strong work ethic.

She was the youngest of seven sisters and shared a close bond with her family. One of Yvonne’s favorite stories came from her sister Gayleen, who lovingly compared their family to “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” She often described their mother as tall, dark-haired, and fair-skinned, while each of the 7 girls had their own unique personalities.

Yvonne was someone who rarely complained and always carried herself with grace and kindness. She was precious to her family, friends, and all who knew her. She shared many special memories with her sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

Yvonne is lovingly survived by her six sisters Carol (Kathy) and Vic Chance and family of British Columbia; Debra Ward and family of Enoch, Alberta; Gayleen (Bill) Cornell and family of Calgary, Alberta and British Columbia; Kim Wilson and family of Alberta & Florida USA; Sandra Wilson and family of Calgary, Alberta; and Valerie Wilson of Calgary, Alberta as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends throughout Alberta and British Columbia.

Yvonne is also survived by our loving Aunt Rose and our cousin Troy and his wife Katherine to whom he was more like a brother than a cousin. She cherished the special bond and memories they shared throughout her life.

Yvonne was predeceased by her parents, Marion Wilson and Arnold O’Brien of Calgary, Alberta, as well as her brother in laws David (BC) and Jerry (Enoch) also her nephews Jamie and Josh of Calgary.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses at Foothills Hospital for the care, compassion, and comfort they provided to Yvonne during her final weeks.

A Celebration of Life for Yvonne will be held at Pierson’s Funeral Home (4121 17 Avenue SE, Calgary, Alberta) on August 29, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
