William “Bill” Andrew Makson

April 3, 1972 — November 24, 2021

It is with the greatest sadness that we announce the passing of William “Bill” Makson, 49, peacefully at his home in Calgary, Alberta on Wednesday, November 24, 2021.

Bill is survived by his wife, Sarah (nee Johnson), his children, Briar and Sophie, his mother, Ann (Wachel) Makson, and his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Diane. He will be remembered fondly by the family he married into – his parents-in law, Ron and Arlene Johnson, and brother and sister-in law, Nicholas and Diane Johnson. Bill was also known as Uncle Bill to Dakota and Amber Makson, and Willow and Murdock Johnson.

Bill was predeceased by his father, William Makson, his paternal grandparents, Michael and Jessie Makadonsky, and his maternal grandparents, Andrew and Sophie (Marzec) Wachel.

Bill was born in Mississauga, Ontario where he lived as a young man, but jumped at the chance to move to Calgary in 2004 to be closer to the mountains and skiing. Bill loved the mountains and skiing. He met and married Sarah on a ski hill. He was very excited to buy his children their first skis last season. He was even more excited when they learned to stop on those skis. Sophie and Briar lit up his world. Bill loved being their daddy and enjoyed being home full-time to care for them. He also loved riding his motorcycle, riding his bike, and was recently obsessed with camping with his family. He created wonderful memories for his family and leaves them with the firm belief that, if you want to do it, you should do it now.

With the kind assistance of Pierson Funeral Home, we invite Bill’s family and friends to Turner & Porter – Peel Chapel, 2180 Hurontario Street, Mississauga, Ontario for a visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 6, 2021 and service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 7, 2021. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Dunnville, Ontario. To attend the funeral and visitation, you must provide proof of vaccination upon arrival. If you cannot attend the service in person, but would like to say goodbye, you can do so through this

In the last two months, Bill and his family became incredibly grateful for the care and support offered to him at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre. Thank you to all the health care professionals who assisted Bill when he needed them. Bill’s family encourages donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Women in Insurance Cancer Crusade (WICC) in his memory.

If you have fond memories of Bill to share with his family, please bring them to the service or send them to Sarah. She will collect them to share with their children as they grow to help them remember their loving daddy.
