Wayne Grant Jones, born on September 7, 1946, in Oyen, Alberta, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2025, at South Health Campus. He was surrounded by his loving family. Wayne was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His contributions to his community and family will be remembered fondly.
Throughout his life, Wayne engaged in various professions. He had an impressive range of skills. His occupations included driving a taxi, running an at home printing business and newspaper distribution. He combined his graphic design skills with his passion for woodworking while working at a sign company, where he handled sales and installation of large signs for new home developments. Perhaps his favourite occupation came after “retirement”, when he worked part time in the gardening centre at Canadian Tire.
Wayne was active in his church from a young age. He served his mission in Finland when he was 19. Following his mission he met Marian while working in Red Deer. They dated a short time before marrying in the Cardston Temple in 1969. His commitment to serving his church continued where he served in various positions and participated in many service projects. At church functions you would often find Wayne in the kitchen or outside flipping pancakes or hamburgers. Wayne's dry sense of humour, brought amusement to those around him. He enjoyed working on projects around the house. He liked working with his hands in the yard and grew an impressive vegetable garden. He created a rock garden in the front yard that contains many local species of wild flower. He was quick to help out when others needed something built and the sandbox he crafted for his first grandchild is sturdy enough to be used through generations.
Wayne was married for more than 55 years to his beloved wife, Marian. Together, they nurtured a family that includes their children, Gail (Mark) Stevenson, Carolyn (Matt) Cabral, David Jones, and Scott Jones. He took great pride in his role as a grandfather to Connor, Carlin, Tori, Nolan, and Patrick, always cherishing the moments spent with each of them.
He is also survived by his siblings, Heber (Ann)Jones and Jennifer (Craig) Meldrum, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Nonavee Jones, his sisters, Marcia Tagg and Eileen Jones, and his daughter-in-law, Kristine Peatz. Their memories linger in the hearts of those who loved him.
