Victoria Mae Merenick

May 24, 1942 — April 4, 2024

Calgary

The family of Victoria “Vickie” Mae Merenick (Bodnar) mourns the loss of an amazing woman who passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, Alberta on April 4th, 2024 with family at her side.

Vickie was born on May 24, 1942, in Edmonton, Alberta to John Bodnar and Margaret Bodnar (George). She was the third of six children: Marshall (Doreen) Bodnar, Ron (Gloria) Bodnar, Patricia (Raymond) Bucknell, Monica Bodnar, Maxine (Roger) Zarowny. She is survived by one sister Patricia.

Vickie married Willie Merenick on September 1, 1961. They had three children: Kathy (Larry) Fleury, Glenn (Tammy) Merenick, Brad (Wanda) Merenick.  She had four grandchildren: Sydney & Logan Fleury, Dexter & Regan Merenick, and predeceased by her granddaughter Tina.
Vickie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. She retired from TELUS and moved to Blind Bay, BC with Willie where they started their own business together. She enjoyed boating on Shuswap Lake, loved spending endless hours in her beautiful garden, and to this day made us wonder how she baked the most delicious zucchini cake. Always a devoted fan, mom loved to travel with dad as he played his fiddle with numerous musicians and bands, enjoying camping in their motorhome along the way.

The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful healthcare professionals who cared for mom over the years. This includes Dr. Boyne, Dr. Stinton and Cynthia Wittiger, Dr. Fell, and Dr. Bakare and the wonderful nursing staff at Foothills hospital in Unit 42. We also extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Withers and the staff at Providence Care Centre, the Aspenwood nurses and caregivers, and the residents who have known mom over the years.

We will be having a celebration of Vickie’s life at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Lung Association at lung.ca.
