Traian Mihut passed away with his loving wife by his side on Friday, August 2, 2024 at the age of 66 years. Born in Pâncota, Traian escaped Communist rule through various Eastern European countries before coming to Canada and settling in Calgary, Alberta in 1982. In 1986, a fateful trip to the post office would lead Traian to meet his future wife Janice (née Robinson), a single mother with two young children. Janice and Traian would marry in 1987, and build a beautiful and successful life together.
Traian worked exceptionally hard to provide for his wife and young family, first working seismic in oil & gas and then as a lathe (manual) machinist. Traian had many friends at work and was widely respected for his skill and craftsmanship.
Traian was especially at peace in nature, often going on long hikes in Kananaskis well into his 60s, with his trusty dogs Bennie and Jennie by his side. He often would be found walking or biking around Carbon or Sue Higgins park. Traian developed a passion for backyard gardening, cultivating beautiful fruits, vegetables, and herbs. A fantastic cook, Traian transformed the bounty of his backyard garden into delicious Romanian and Canadian dishes for his family and friends to enjoy.
Most importantly for Traian, he was a man of deep faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and was a member of the Bridgeland Seventh-Day Adventist Church for the last 20 years, serving as a Deacon for the last 10.
Traian is predeceased by parents Georghe and Persida, infant brother Georghe, brother and sister-in-law Aurel and Adela, and brother-in-law Brent Pahl.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 37 years, Janice Mihut of Calgary. Scott Campbell, step-son, and granddaughter Amira. Sheila Foreman, step-daughter, son-in-law Jeffrey, and grandchildren Evelyn and Maxwell. Sister Florica Sandru (Todar); niece Daniela; nephews Leontin (Andrea) and their children Karina, Rafaiel and Rachel, and Samuel, and his son Daniel, all of Romania. Mother and father-in-law Bill and Joyce Robinson; sister-in-law Karen Robinson (the late Brent Pahl), niece and nephew Abebayehu and Will Pahl. Countless friends and colleagues from back home in Romania, Europe, across Canada, and the United States will remember him fondly.
A special thank you to the health care aides, nurses, and doctors at the Southwood Hospice, Rockyview and Foothills hospitals for taking such good care of Traian in his final weeks. Also, a deep thank you for the support and kindness of the Bridgeland Seventh-day Adventist and Garden Road Seventh-day Adventist Churches over the last two months.
A Funeral Service will be held for Traian at Garden Road Seventh Day Adventist Church (155-100 Street N.E., Calgary) on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at 1:00 pm, with Visitation starting at 11:30 am. Interment will follow at Rocky View Garden of Peace Cemetery. You can watch the live broadcast of the service below. Everyone is invited to wear their running or walking shoes to the service in memory of Traian's love for walking and enjoying the outdoors.

Traian, may you find peace and serenity in your eternal rest. We love you!
DROWSY BIRDS (Somnoroase păsărele)
Sleepy birds in trees residing
In the nests they end their flight,
Then in foliage they are hiding –
Sleep well, good night
Drowsy birds at even gliding,
Round about their nests alight,
In among the branches hiding . . .
Dear, good night!
Silence through the forest creeping,
Lullaby the river sighs;
In the garden flowers sleeping. . .
Shut your eyes!
Glides the swan among the rushes
To its rest where moonlight gleams,
And the angels' whisper hushes. . .
Peaceful dreams!
O'er the sky stars without number,
On the earth a silver light;
All is harmony and slumber . . .
Dear, good night!
- By Romanian poet Mihai Eminescu
Somnoroase păsărele, de Mihai Eminescu
Somnoroase păsărele
Pe la cuiburi se adună,
Se ascund în rămurele –
Noapte bună!
Doar izvoarele suspină,
Pe când codrul negru tace;
Dorm şi florile’n grădină –
Dormi în pace!
Trece lebăda pe ape
Între trestii să se culce –
Fie-ţi îngerii aproape,
Somnul dulce!
Peste-a nopţii feerie
Se ridică mândra lună,
Totu-i vis şi armonie –
Noapte bună!
