Terry Caldwell passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at the age of 61 years.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 46 years, Susan Caldwell; Terry’s children, Cassandra (Bud) Afonso and Terry Gascon of Calgary, AB; his siblings, Tommy (Gabriella De Melo) Caldwell of Cornwall, ON, Debbie (Paul) Giroux of Calgary, AB, Dennis Caldwell of Ottawa, ON, Susan Bunga of Ontario and Patricia Caldwell of Ontario. Terry is predeceased by his parents, Yvette Renaud and Robert Caldwell; and sisters, Linda Levis and Elizabeth Caldwell.
Terry was born in Ottawa, ON to Yvette Renaud and Robert Caldwell. He moved west to Calgary in 1981 in search of work in construction. However, he found employment at CP Rail and dedicated 35 years of his life. Terry loved the time he spent on the train and would share fond memories he had of traveling through the mountains. Terry helped train many new employees. He was a great teacher who was knowledgeable. He was wise and stern when he had to be. His work ethic was exemplary and he took great pride in his career. He always made sure his family had everything they needed. Terry retired early at the age of 55. Terry met the love of his life, Sue in 1977 when they were 15 years old. Terry was the literal “boy next door”. Terry and Sue welcomed their first child Terry in 1980 and their second child, Cassandra in 1989. They were then married in 1992 and spent many wonderful years together. Terry loved going on long camping trips every summer with his family making life long memories. They also traveled to Mexico at least once a year, never missing a year! He was a horror movie fanatic who loved all horror, even the most cheesy movies. He always had a passion for music. He had an extensive collection filled with hundreds of CD’s and records. His music idol is drummer Neil Peart of Rush. For his first drum kit, which was 1 snare and 1 symbol, Terry fashioned a suitcase as a bass drum. In his later years his favorite thing to do was jam with his friends. Terry was in two bands, one of those with his long time friends, the other with “the handsome devils” with who he performed several live shows around Calgary and neighboring towns. If anyone knew anything about Terry, it was that music was a part of his soul. He was a dedicated family man who would do anything for his children. While his children were young, Susan worked as a waitress on the night shift. Terry was home every night to raise the kids and make sure they were fed, taken on outings to the roller rink or swimming at least once a week. His biggest pride was his family. Terry will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

To the Caldwell family,
I’m very sorry for your loss. When I worked in Calgary, whether we were working together or just talking when we had time, we got into the conversations about drummers, since he of course was one. We compared our favourite drummers & got into some really good conversations about them. He was always such a good guy to work with as well, especially when I was learning the yard at Alyth, he was one of many who helped me out & I will always appreciate his professionalism & great sense of humour, I will miss him dearly. Again very sorry for your loss.

Sue, Jr (yes Jr I’ve only ever known you as that) and Cassandra, sending you all hugs and prayers during this difficult time. My sincere and deepest condolences for the loss of such an amazing human. I’ve known Terry for about 36 years, I was even there for His and Sue’s wedding. So many fun memories, whether it was in Calgary, Mexico, or Terry playing drums.
