Sylvia Margaret Haslett

Sylvia Haslett passed away peacefully in her sleep at Cedars Villa Extendicare on Friday September 11 at the age of 93 years.

She is survived by her brother, Fred (Melodie) Minken of Calgary; niece, Adrianne (Devon) Jorgensen; grand-nieces, Blake and Logan of Calgary; nephew, Clark Minken (Jillian Goetz) of Haddonfield, NJ, USA; sister, Joyce MacDonald of Delta, BC; niece, Andrea (Hugh) Brown; grand-niece, Amanda & grand-nephew, Garrett of Delta, BC. She is also survived by the Haslett side of the family, nieces, Jennifer Webber (Forrest), Jill Webber (Hrabinsky), Joan Webber & Joanne Webber (Thompson); nephews, Scott Turner & Glen Turner;  and numerous grand-nieces and nephews. 

Sylvia is predeceased by her husband, Arthur (March 6, 2000); parents, Matt & Mary Minken; in-laws, Fred & Josie Haslett; brother-in-law, Kenneth MacDonald; nephew, Matthew MacDonald; brother-in-law, John C. Webber; brother-in-law, Wesley Turner; nephew Dale Turner; and sisters-in-law, Helen Haslett (Heidt), Mona Haslett (Webber) & Valerie Haslett (Turner). 

Sylvia was born on the farm homestead in Theodore, SK. Her early schooling was in a one room rural school on the family farm then went to high school in the town of Theodore. For college, she moved to Yorkton, SK where she began her work career and met Art. She and Art married November 10, 1955. Their first home was in Yorkton where they rented a number of houses. At the time, Calgary had many career opportunities available so they moved to the city, an apartment on 6th avenue downtown. They next moved into a house, the original location is now Crowchild Trail. Their first real home was purchased in 1962 in the neighbourhood of Acadia. At the time, Acadia was the southern end of the city of Calgary.

Sylvia and Art loved to take day trips all around Calgary in all directions. They especially enjoyed it once they acquired a motorhome. Their favourite locations were Bow Valley Park and Waterton Park.

After Art's passing in 2000, Sylvia continued to live in their home in Acadia until 2007. She decided that moving into an apartment was the next stage of her life. She enjoyed her new apartment where she had views of the city centre as well as Glenmore Park, even the Rocky Mountains in the distance.

In recent years, Sylvia's greatest joy were the visits with her grand-nieces, Blake & Logan.
