Calgary

Susan Wright passed away on October 25, 2026, at Agecare Shawnee in Calgary at the age of 74.

Susan will be deeply missed by her husband, Lee, and by her daughters, Krista Alvarez and Jennifer Wright-Maley and her stepdaughter, Anna Ravenscroft. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Aulden, Eli, Caia, Sam, Michael, Gabriel, Inanna, and Graeme. She is also survived by her brother, Carl, and by her sisters, Meg, Janet, and Cathy. She will be remembered with love by all who knew her and shared in her life.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jason, and by her brother, Edward. Their memories remained part of her life and of the family she loved.

Susan was born in Bremerton, Washington to Carl and Joyce Ostertag. She was the third of six children - making her one of the middle children. A spot in the family structure that's known best for their ability to keep the peace and have a strong sibling bond. She learned quickly how to adapt to new situations and forge ahead in a new school each year the Navy moved the family. Being a Naval family, the Ostertags moved often. Growing up, Susan has lived in many states. In 1959, she was living in Hawaii when it became the 50th state, a remarkable moment in history to have witnessed firsthand.

She was a lover of animals and was rarely found without a kitten or puppy companion at her side.
In Susan's earlier years, she worked as an accountant. She later found her call for nursing and pursued school to obtain her RN degree and worked as an RN in CA.

It wasn't until 2000, she met Lee, and the two were married on September 2, 2001. It was love at first sight. Their marriage became an important part of Susan’s story and a lasting source of love and companionship. In 2010, Susan and Lee moved to Ecuador and lived a contented lifestyle being coffee farmers. Having a love for gardening, Susan was able to foster beautiful flower gardens. She had a special touch for gardening and everything blossomed under her nurturing touch. Due to health concerns brought about by the high elevation in Ecuador, Susan and Lee moved to Calgary in 2020 to be near family.

Susan Wright’s life was marked by family, enduring relationships, and meaningful moments across the years. May her memory bring comfort to those who loved her and peace in the days ahead.
