Steven John Dickson

With sadness we announce the passing of Steven John Dickson on Monday, September 21, 2026 in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 71 years.

Steven was born in Moose Jaw Union hospital on May 18, 1955 and was, from that moment, the favourite child of his mother Dee. She made no bones about it. He was a sunny, golden-haired boy who won over adults and kids alike with his easy charm.

He loved the camaraderie of sports and his high-school friends are still his closest, most loyal companions. As a young teen he saved up for a 10-speed bike and Dad took him to Saskatoon to buy an Italian Cito. Dad watched Steve set off for home down HWY 11 then went to the races at Marquis Downs. Steve was near Kenaston when Dad caught up with him.

After graduating from STI (now Sask Polytechnic) in Industrial Instrumentation, he moved to Calgary and worked around the oil industry, finding his niche in systems design.

He married Tracy Cross and had two sons, Ron and Pete. Steve travelled widely, for work and fun, and acquitted himself well on some of the world’s most prestigious golf courses. When he retired in 2015 he had plans to renovate his house but they always gave way for a chance to hit a golf ball, outdoors or simulated, and buy more golf clubs. He loved good food, smooth rum and 70s rock. But most of all he loved his boys and his granddaughter, Naome, the bright spark that he helped care for at home.

Steve was diagnosed with Bile Duct cancer in February and the disease spread aggressively despite the care of his trusted medical team. He chose to say goodbye through MAID with his family at his side. Along with his offspring Ron, Pete, and Naome, Steve leaves his siblings Glenn, Laurie and Les Dickson.

Steve will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Ron Dickson and Peter Dickson both of Calgary, Alberta; granddaughter, Naome Dickson; sister, Laurie Dickson (Paul Grant) of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan; brothers, Les Dickson of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan; and Glenn Dickson (Birdie Kitella) of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
