Steven Robert Bacovsky

July 21, 1956 — October 29, 2025

Calgary

Steve Bacovsky passed away surrounded by loved ones at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on October 29, 2025 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 69 years of age.

He will be dearly missed by his beloved son, Steven John Bacovsky; his sister, Rosemary Bacovsky and brother-in-law, Bill Trefanenko; nephews, Quinn & Reilly Medcke. He is also survived by many close relatives throughout Alberta & Saskatchewan whom he spent many holidays traveling and visiting with. He was predeceased by his father, Steve Sr. (1982); mother, Polly (1995); sister, Annamay (2015) and brother, John (2021).

Steve was born and raised in Coleman, Alberta and had an immense love for “The Pass”. He spent many happy times organizing reunions, fundraising and promoting the home town that he was so proud of.

He moved to Calgary to attend SAIT and soon afterward started his career as a long-haul trucker where he put many a mile traveling throughout Canada and the US. The year 1988 saw him not only participating in the Olympics Opening Ceremony but starting his journey into bussing. He started with one bus, taking his Ski & Fun friends on excursions to Whitefish. By 1992, he’d acquired National Motor Coach Systems and more recently International Stage Lines. From that one bus he grew to be one of the premiere bus companies in Western Canada, expanding the fleet to over 50 buses. He enjoyed his business and was hands on until the end.

He loved his chosen home of Calgary and the Calgary Stampede which he looked forward to attending and participating in every year, even having a tarp in the Rangeland Derby for several years. He had a western heart and loved all things rodeo, traveling to the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas for over 30 years with his buddies.

He was a driver and loved road trips with Steven - Alaska Highway, Route 66, Bonneville Salt Flats, to name a few. These memories will live on to all whom had the pleasure of being part of Steve’s circle. He touched many lives and was a loyal and generous friend. His big personality and joyous laugh will be missed. “We’ll Miss You Bud!!”

A private family service will be held. A Celebration of Steve's Life will occur at a later date.
