We announce the passing of Stephen James Moyor on November 19th 2024 at the age of 41 after a 5.5 years long battle with cancer.
Stephen is survived by his loving wife Kristina Moyor (O’Brien) of nearly 15 years; their precious fur baby Charlie of 4 years; his Grandmother Theresa Murphy; his parents Robert and Diana Moyor; In-Laws Kevin and Jane O’Brien; siblings Jason (Jodi), Curtis (Heather), Jessica-Rae, Cody (Aphrodite), Samuel; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Stephen and Kristina met each other through their mutual love of music in 2009 while singing in their ward choir. They were married Dec 29, 2009 for time and eternity in the Cardston, AB Temple. Both devoted life-long members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Stephen served a full-time mission for the church in Arizona from 2003-2005 and often spoke of how this experience shaped the rest of his life and dedication to serving God and His children. Stephen’s mission presidents Nigel and Avalon Wappett of Fairbanks, Alaska; and Tracy and Gayelynn Watson of Pleasant Grove, Utah remained lifelong friends, family and mentors whom Stephen held great admiration for.
Stephen had a great passion for gardening/landscaping, music, video games, and the science fiction/fantasy genre. He loved to play the piano and organ at home and church, particularly for the primary children, but most of all singing beautiful inspiring duets with Kristina during Sunday services or at funerals.
After many years of living with unexplained infertility and numerous failed medical treatments, Stephen and Kristina were faced with the daunting task of fighting a rare terminal cancer diagnosis (Inoperable Metastatic Mucosal Melanoma) in February 2019. Stephen showed true courage and fearlessness throughout this battle, almost immediately recognizing the diagnosis as an opportunity to serve God and His children no matter the cost. He felt very strongly this journey would be more about helping others, than whatever lessons he would learn from it. He devoted these years to being completely open and transparent about his experience and faith with the public, sharing nearly 50,000 words of writing in his regular health updates on Facebook and through e-mail. He held deep appreciation to the countless medical professionals that cared for him over the years, always trying to show gratitude to them. He especially recognized how important Kristina’s role through all of it was, for he often said, he would not have survived as long as he had without her dutiful service to him as his primary caregiver.
We know God extended his life for many years beyond scientific understanding so he could continue to shed a positive light and perspective on otherwise grim and painful circumstances. As our prophet and president of the church Russell M. Nelson declared, “Think Celestial” during a recent general conference address, Stephen’s life as a cancer patient was the epitome of this call. He was always encouraging others to broaden their perspective, step out of their bubble and look for the purpose in trial and suffering. Stephen held a great love for our Savior Jesus Christ and his Heavenly Father, to whom he has now gone home to. Though we who remain are left to pickup the pieces of our broken hearts, we are at peace knowing he no longer suffers the immense pain this mortal life caused him.
