Stephen Kolisnyk, passed away in his home on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at the age of 95 years.
Stephen was born and raised on a farm in Saskatchewan. It was here that he cultivated the values of hard work, integrity, and compassion that defined his character. He joined the army in March 11, 1952, and served until January 9, 1973. His commitment to his country led him and his family to various corners of the globe, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary, Germany and Victoria, British Colombia. These are places the Kolisnyk family have called home. In 1968 the family moved from Edmonton to Calgary, where the family settled. Stephen retired in 1973. As a veteran of the Korean War, Stephen proudly served his nation for 25 years, exemplifying bravery and honor during his deployment from 1952 to 1953. After his retirement from the army, Stephen worked hard as an electrician.
In 1976, Stephen found renewed companionship and married Eleanor Fazekas. Though their paths diverged in 1990, Stephen's capacity for love endured, leading him to Rose Bostock, whose unwavering presence brought him solace and joy until her passing on April 10, 2007.
Stephen's legacy lives on through his children: David Kolisnyk, Patricia Kolisnyk, Germaine Kolisnyk, and Irene Kolisnyk, as well as his grandchildren, Ashley Kolisnyk, Clint Brophy, Curtis Brophy, and Michelle Kolisnyk.
Stephen was predeceased by his parents, Justina Kutucki and John Kolisnyk, one son Wayne Kolisnyk, as well as his siblings, Mary, Helen and Matt.
Stephen was lucky to be neighbors with his daughter Irene for the last 5 years, he will be sadly missed and always loved and remembered.
In keeping with Stephen’s wishes, cremation has taken place at the Foothills Crematorium.
