Sidney Costa passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at the age of 86 years. He was a devoted husband who lovingly adored his wife, Lorena, and never stopped missing her since her passing in 2017.
His heart beat with pride for his beloved Sporting Portugal Soccer Club, always cheering for them. He brought that same passion to his own community, where he was a dedicated soccer coach, inspiring generations of young athletes with his knowledge, patience, and joy for the game.
He was a faithful member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, where his commitment to his faith and his community was seen not only in worship but in the hours he gave volunteering. His respect and admiration for the Portuguese community and its cherished traditions were unwavering. He celebrated his heritage with pride and participated wholeheartedly in the cultural events that brought everyone together.
Music stirred his soul, especially opera, which he cherished with a deep appreciation for its beauty and emotion. But it wasn’t just music or sport that made his life rich — it was the people. He had a rare and beautiful way with others. The neighborhood children loved him, and he adored them in return, always ready with a kind word, a sweet treat, or a playful joke. Even in his final hours, he found joy in making others laugh.
But above all, he loved. He loved everybody — especially his children, who were the pride of his heart — and he cherished his grandchildren, each one a precious light in his life.
He will be remembered not just for the life he lived, but for the love he gave — freely, fully, and without condition. His legacy will live on in the conversations amongst his children, the laughter of his grandchildren, the cheers on the soccer fields, and the countless lives he touched along the way.
Sidney will be dearly missed by his daughters, Elsa Costa, Sandy Costa (Darryl Hilchey); son, Roberto (Michelle) Costa; grandchildren Neumis LaRoche, Cydnee Thomson; sister-in-law, Liberia Andrade; nieces and nephews and many extended family in Canada and Portugal. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Lorena Maria Costa (née Machado); parents, Florinda De Sousa and Bento Da Costa; brother, Venicio (Dora) Da Costa; sister, Norma Shear; brother-in-law, Andrade.
He was, and always will be, deeply loved.
