Shirley Doreen Locking (Nee Sevrens)
September 22, 1929 — June 12, 2021
Shirley Locking passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at the age of 91 years. She is lovingly remembered by her children Dennis (Sharon) Locking of Calgary, AB, Trudy (Gary) Horton of Crossfield, AB, and Donald (Shari) Locking of Lethbridge, AB; grandchildren Jennifer (Sean-Paul), Ryan (Angie), Conrad, Trevor (Rebecca), Emily, Jacob (Maria), and Sheldon (Christina); great-grandchildren Cosette, Everett, Greyson, Maria, Kai, Jade, Ezria, Lillie, Arthur, Theodore, and Charles, who is expected to arrive shortly; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Marlin, parents Eugene & Mabel, and siblings Lucille, Alice Lorraine, Emogene, Leland, William, Myrtle, Thomas, Maybelle, Beulah, and an infant brother.
Shirley was born in Vulcan, AB and lived in rural Southern Alberta until she was 9. When, after the death of their father, the family settled in Calgary. In later years, she met the love of her life, Marlin, at a dance. They started dating and were married shortly thereafter. Marlin and Shirley were blessed with three children. Family was Shirley’s greatest passion. She was always close to her nine siblings and spent many hours with grandchildren. Her next greatest passion was her faith. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved to serve not only in the church but in any way she could. She was also a voracious reader and loved learning. She worked as a librarian in Vulcan and Calgary and spent many years working as a land manager for Rustum Petroleums.
Shirley’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the management and staff of Evanston Grand Village and Dr. Louw for the kind and compassionate care they showed their mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. They would also like to thank the special people who provided service and care for her for the past few years of her illness.
A Visitation will be held for Shirley at Pierson’s Forest Lawn Chapel (4121 – 17 Avenue SE, Calgary) on Monday, June 21, 2021 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at 11:00 am. To join the webcast of the service please click on this link
