Roy Linnel Cooper, born on August 21, 1927, in Liverpool, England, passed peacefully at the age of 98 on August 22, 2025, in Calgary, Alberta. His remarkable life journey began in England, where he served in the Navy before making the courageous decision to leave military life and move to Canada in 1952. A year later, he brought his beloved wife, Eileen, and their son, Paul, to join him in their new home.
Roy dedicated more than ten years of his life to serving as an ordained Anglican Minister in Manitoba, where he was actively involved in the Anglican schools located on the reserves of Dauphin. His commitment to helping others did not end there; he later relocated to British Columbia, where he continued his work with troubled youth. Roy’s passion led him back to the prairies of Alberta, and he subsequently retired in the early 1990s after many years of dedicated service with Alberta Social Services.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Roy had a variety of hobbies that brought him joy. He was an enthusiastic photographer, an avid model train collector, and loved to learn about all different types of fish. Summers spent in British Columbia and Okotoks in his trailer with Eileen were among his fondest memories.
Roy is survived by his son, Paul Cooper, and his grandchildren, Christine (Terry) O'Brien, Corrine Cooper, and Michael (Nicole) Cooper, as well as his great-grandson, Bryce. He is predeceased by his parents, Nellie and Paul Cooper, his wife, Eileen Cooper, and his daughter-in-law, Heather Cooper.
A Celebration of Life for Roy Linnel Cooper will be held on September 8, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Pierson's Funeral Services located (4121 17 Ave SE, Calgary, AB, T2A 0T1).
