Ronald Kenneth Wheeler

September 18, 1943 — September 25, 2025

Calgary, Alberta

On Thursday, September 25, 2025 Ronald Kenneth Wheeler, beloved husband of Karen Wheeler of Calgary, Alberta unexpectedly passed away at home at the age of 82 years.

Ron was born in Hamilton, Ontario, on September 18, 1943, his journey through life was marked by hard work, dedication, and a zest for sports leisure activities that enriched both his life and the lives of those around him.

Throughout his early years, Ron demonstrated a strong work ethic, beginning his life on a farm before moving to construction, where he contributed to building bridges in Ontario. In 1962, he relocated to Regina, Saskatchewan, where he worked at Pittsburg Glass and Coop Creamery. His path led him to Calgary in 1963, where Ron held various positions, most notably with CIL Explosives, Firestone Tires, Lucerne Meats, various paving companies, and BFI. He retired from the City of Calgary's Streets and Roads Department, where he operated snowplows, graders, and sweepers, and played a crucial role in maintaining the equipment used in sweeping operations, specifically the broom shop.

Ron had an unwavering love for sports. He was a passionate supporter of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Toronto Blue Jays, and Calgary Flames, always finding joy in the games they played. Equally, he enjoyed playing sports himself; fastball and curling were among his favorites. Ron could often be found at the gym, relishing the opportunity to stay active, walking, and tending to his yard, which was renowned for its immaculate appearance. His neighbors fondly remember him as the best “snow angel” in the neighborhood, always ready to lend a hand and share a smile.

Ron’s creative spirit shone through in his earlier years when he would draw comics and strum his guitar during his teens and twenties. While he was often seen as a gentle soul with a friendly demeanor, Ron also possessed a playful side, evident in his humorous take on "channel surfing."

Besides his loving wife, Karen, of 60 years, Ron is survived by his children Ronnie Wheeler (Christine St. Gelais), Rhonda (Mike) Irvine: three grandchildren Tyler St. Gelais, Jessica St. Gelais, Jordan Irvine; two great-grandchildren Ben St. Gelais, Ashton St. Gelais, all of Calgary, Alberta: as well as numerous brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Ron leaves behind a legacy of kindness, camaraderie, and a commitment to excellence that will be sorely missed by those who were fortunate enough to know him. His life was a testament to the beauty of hard work, love for sports, and the simple joys in life.
