Robert John Perry

September 27, 1958 — July 14, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rob (Robbie) John Perry on July 14th, 2022, at the Peter Lougheed Hospital after a lengthy illness at the young age of 63.

Rob and his twin brother Tom were born to Dorothy (Crawford) Perry & Bob Perry at the Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary on Saturday, September 27th 1958. Rob grew up in Renfrew, living there until high school when the family moved to Forest Heights. Rob worked at Safeway throughout high school and moved on to CP Rail after graduating. Rob trained and worked on many jobs in the running trade, first as a breakman and conductor, and then on to qualify as one of Calgary’s youngest Locomotive Engineermen in 1980. Throughout most of his career, Rob worked and often trained others in the running trade, taking trains from Calgary to the mountains, through the spiral tunnels, and on into field BC. He enjoyed, was very good at, and took great pride in his work. Rob worked the West pool until transferring to the yard for a bit around 2007, then moving again in 2009, with the seniority to hold the Eckshaw & Copithorne switcher jobs. Rob had the honor of running the old #5468 Steam Engine (now located in downtown Calgary) from Field, BC through downtown Calgary – a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

During his summer vacations, Rob enjoyed camping and was an avid fisherman for lake and ocean fishing. He and his family spent many summers over the years enjoying both, meeting up and camping with his dad and stepmom, family holidaying in the Nakusp, Mirror Lake areas, and two wonderful trips to Vancouver Island. The first was in 1995 when his children were 2 yrs and 11 months old, and the second trip in 2008.

Rob is pre-deceased by his mother, Dorothy, on June 1, 1985, his twin brother Tom on November 12th 1997, and the recent passing of his father, Bob a year ago. Rob is survived by his four children, Johnathan (Cassie), Katrina (Nathan), Markus (Kara) & Malinda (Gabriel); three grandchildren, his younger brother Lloyd, niece Candice (Francis); great-nephew, & nephew Blake; stepmother Gerri, his close friend Donna, former wife Deb, many friends, and coworkers to which he will be deeply missed.
