Dr. Robert Jordan Herget of Calgary, Alberta, passed away peacefully in the Southwood Care Center on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at the age of 77 years. He returned home to his Heavenly Father, surrounded by many loving family members. He is survived by his beloved eternal companion, Margaret LaRee Mossey Herget, his children, Jordan (Julie), Janae Wickhorst, Suzanne (Kelly) St. Jean, Gregory, Michael (Lauren), Sandra (Ben) Anderson, Garett (Jodi) and Macilyn Porter, and 27 grandchildren. Also surviving are siblings Delton (Mary Lou), Cynthia (Wayne) Harris and Brent (Tracy). He was predeceased by his father John, mother Melba and sister Gloria (Richard, who is also deceased) Burt.
Robert was born in Lethbridge, Alberta on August 14, 1948 to John Herman and Melba Harriett Sheen Herget. Growing up in Stirling, and the surrounding Southern Alberta communities, he learned the values of faith, hard work and service. These values guided him throughout his seventy-seven years. In the early years, he was involved in many activities, including athletics, and kept many friends, from his childhood, for life.
After serving an honourable mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Montreal, Quebec, Robert married LaRee in the Cardston Alberta Temple on Dec. 27, 1969. Robert completed his medical degree at the University of Alberta in 1974. He was a respected and compassionate family physician and, at 50 years of service upon his recent retirement, one of the longest-serving physicians in Calgary. He positively impacted thousands of lives, including bringing joy to hundreds of families by delivering babies in the earlier years of his practice.
A faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Robert served in many callings throughout his life, including in several Bishoprics, as well as sending each of his four sons off on missions of their own. His testimony and example of discipleship touched the lives of many and will continue to be a source of strength for his family and friends. He was generous to the end with his time and resources, rarely thinking of himself and ensuring that his many children, grandchildren and other family members received all the blessings that life could offer.
The family expresses much appreciation to the doctors, nurses and heath care workers for their kind care and encouragement over the months that Robert was hospitalized. They are also grateful for the outpourings of love and support, and find peace in the knowledge of the gospel plan, which promises joyful reunions between Robert and all.
