Richard "Dick" McHugh

Aug 29, 1944 — Aug 20, 2026

Calgary, Alberta

Richard was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario. He was a mechanic by trade and when he moved to Calgary he eventually took work at Standen's where he worked for many years. He was competent, hard working and skilled at his trade. He loved cars! Richard had a love of life and enjoyed many things. Traveling to BC was a favorite destination and he would fold up his bike and take it with him on his flights there and back. He could be found around Calgary at all hours of the day and night riding his unique bicycle. Richard enjoyed music, especially playing the guitar. He also had a deep love of animals, including ferrets. He was proud of his furry friends and shared this love with members of the FRES (Ferret Rescue Education Society) and AFS (Alberta Ferret Society). Richard also had a love of the great outdoors and all of the animals in the wild, especially bears. Dick lived at Home Space for sometime and after a fall a few years ago moved to the Mayfair Care Centre, where he resided until his passing. Richard will be remembered for his kindness and his love of others. He will be dearly missed.

Dick is survived by a nephew Robin Johnson (Kathleen Cameron); two cats Molly & Missy; and many friends. A private family farewell was followed by cremation at the Foothills Crematorium.
