René Guno Nielsen

Ren Nielsen passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at the age of 72 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 27 years Joan; children Ruth (Blair) Smaha, Anny (Jason) Desjarlais and Rene’ Nielsen Jr. (Angela); grandchildren James, Kyle, Brandon, Tynesha, Jesse, Eric, Taylor, Alex, Nathan, Daniel and Sean; great grandchildren Hayley, Brooklyn, Blayne, Gabriel, Preston, Ryker and Haven, with Jayla-Ray due to arrive in December; Sister Manja (Michael) Labbe; and many more family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents IB Nielsen and Anny (Jorgen) Jensen and sister Jessie Rempel. Ren was born in Denmark and came to Canada when he was 10, eventually making Calgary his home. He was a welder for more than 50 years, and a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Union for over 40 years. He enjoyed animals, watching black and white movies and hockey. He was an avid Flames fan and loved everything Star Trek. Rene’s greatest passion was his family and truly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held for Ren at Pierson’s Funeral Service (4121 17 Ave SE, Calgary) on Friday, October 25, 2019 at 2:00 pm. If friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of Rene’ to Pancreatic Cancer Canada (pancreaticcancercanada.ca).
