Reinhold “Ray” Simon Wahler

June 25, 1925 — February 10, 2021

Ray Wahler passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at the age of 95 years.

Ray was predeceased by Eileen Lillian Wahler, his wife of over 50 years. He was a great husband. He adored her. He was dedicated to her totally. In our grief we smile … he is holding her hand again.

Ray is survived by his four children: Raymond (Joan) Wahler of Texas, Jack (Kamala) Wahler of British Columbia, David Wahler of Calgary, and Debbie (Brian) Silbernagel of Calgary; six grandchildren: Shane (Heather) Silbernagel, Michael Silbernagel, Jennifer (Kris) Beasley, David Wahler, Michelle Wahler and Bradley Wahler and five great- grandchildren.

Ray also known as Papa would make friends wherever he was, and people truly loved him. Above all though, Ray loved his grandchildren more than anything, they brought him so much joy.

In Ray’s working years, he spent most of that time in the plumbing and heating industry, many working alongside his son Jack. Ray loved to fish, curl, watch all kind of sports including hockey and football. He enjoyed his many vacations in Mexico and Hawaii with his family. Ray was often heard saying: “Have some more!” or “That’s too much”.

Ray could relate to people from all walks of life. He was an empathetic man. He valued character. He looked for the good in each person – and usually found it. He was a man of integrity and held true to his values. He honored and nurtured his family with his generous and giving soul.

Ray was an amazing father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was firm in his principles and supportive. He encouraged and comforted, but never steered. Whatever the circumstance he always responded with the great gift of unconditional love.

Ray will be remembered and missed. His decency, sincerity, and kind soul will stay with us forever. Through our tears, let us see the blessings of knowing and loving him – a great and noble man, and the best father a son or daughter could have.

The family would like to thank the amazing care team at the AgeCare Walden for all the wonderful care they provided to Ray.

A Private Family Funeral Service will be held for Ray at Pierson’s Funeral Service (4121 17 Ave SE, Calgary) on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. Mountain Standard Time.
