Phyllis Victoria Johnson

July 15, 1931 — April 17, 2021

Phyllis Victoria Johnson (nee McLaren) born July 15 1931, died on April 17,2021 at the age of 89.

When Phyllis left us on April 17, I believe she was reunited with her loving husband, William aka Pops.

She was born in St Thomas, Jamaica where she raised her children with William. Phyllis and William migrated to Calgary AB on March 11, 1980 with 3 of their younger children. The rest followed a few years later. She lived in Calgary for 18 years where she worked at Bowcrest nursing home before retiring to Sidney BC, with William, where they lived with their daughter, son-in-law and three grand kids for 18 years.

Phyllis was an amazing mom, grandma, great-grandma and great-great-grandma. She was nurturing, loving, and kind with a big heart. She was always there when you needed her. She would spend a lot of time in the garden with William and the grand kids, occasionally taking breaks by the pond watching the fish that would put her to sleep. She was funny and did mischievous things like feeding the dog chocolate chip cookies but picking out the chips first.

For her, Sunday was church day at Highway Christian Fellowship Church in Sidney BC. On Mondays and Wednesdays, you would find her at the Silver Threads in the ceramics class. If you asked the grand kids for a story of their grandma’s life, they would say it would take a life-time to tell stories about their grand parents.

After William passed on October 19, 2018. Phyllis moved back to Calgary to spend more time with her other kids and getting to know her grand children and her new church family at Crown of Glory Ministries. For Phyllis, Calgary was her first home in Canada and it was her last. Phyllis was a prayer warrior and a devout Christian, humble with an unwavering faith. Her church family was just as important as her family. Agape love. Phyllis received a gift 4 days before she passed, a new great grand baby girl.

Phyllis always found ways to bring out the best in others by encouraging trusting and believing in their abilities. She always said, “Trust in the Lord and He will guide you to greater things”.

Phyllis will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

She is predeceased by her loving husband William; her sister, Ethel; her son, Fitzroy; nephew, Damaine; and grandsons, Shane and Dwayne.

She is survived by her siblings, Matthew, Earl, Daphne, Margaret, Maxine, Swanna, Lynden and Tanko. Phyllis and William raised 9 children, Orientia, Fitzroy, Samaria, Veronica, Bassle, Steve, Charmaine, Rohan and Janice. Her daughters-in-law are Judith, Suzanne, Marlene and Rhonda; sons-in-law, Kevan, Wayne, Delroy and Dayne. She left behind 27 grand children; 24 great-grand children; and 18 great-great-grandchildren; 6 nieces and 5 nephews and cousins.

You will be greatly missed. Love you always and forever, Miss Phyllis.
