Philip Roderick MacAulay passed away on June 11, 2026, in Calgary. Born on October 19, 1953, in New Waterford, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Phil's life was marked by dedication, humor, and a deep commitment to both his family and community.

In his early twenties, Phil proudly served three years in the Royal Canadian Navy, a formative period that instilled in him values of service and camaraderie. Following his military service, he devoted 30 years to the Corps of Commissionaires, working steadfastly in security. His career path exemplified reliability and vigilance, qualities that defined much of his professional life.

Phil’s passions extended beyond his professional endeavors. A lover of pool—both 8 ball and snooker—darts, and cribbage, he delighted in the simple joys of friendly competition. Music held a special place in his heart, with artists such as John Fogerty, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and the Beach Boys providing the soundtrack to his days. A devoted fan of the Buffalo Sabres, Phil’s enthusiasm for sports was contagious. He was also an avid follower of the television show Jeopardy and enjoyed participating in the lottery, though fortune was not always on his side.

Of all his accomplishments, Phil took great pride in his long-standing association with the Royal Canadian Legion, where he was an esteemed Life member of the RCL No. 1 for 51 years where he worked as a a bartender waiter chief steward. His leadership was evident in his 20 years as Legion #1 Branch President and his role as Deputy District Commander for District 9 Alberta-NWT Command. His exceptional service was recognized with the prestigious Meritorious Service Medal, a testament to his unwavering commitment to veteran affairs and community support.

Phil’s warm personality and quick wit made him a cherished presence among family and friends. He is lovingly survived by his wife of 37 years, Susan; his children Heather, Christopher, and Daniel; siblings Dan and Louise; sister-in-law Hannah; and a wide circle of cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, great-nieces and nephews and extended family. These loved ones will carry forward his memory, enriched by the humor and kindness he so generously shared.

He was predeceased by his parents, Daniel & Dolina; grandson Gabriel, brother Chester, nephew Kyle, and his aunt Rodina, who raised him and contributed significantly to the man he became. Their memories remain an integral part of Phil’s enduring legacy.

Philip Roderick MacAulay’s life was a tapestry woven with service, devotion, and joy. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, remembered with respect and affection for a life well lived.
