Peter Gaston Platana
It is with great sadness in my heart that I write now of my dad, Peter Platana, passing away peacefully in Calgary on Sunday, May 27th, 2012 near 7pm with his hand held in mine.
Peter had said good-bye to both his parents Gaston & Mary Platana, and will be missed by his son Rick Cavicchi, his brother Alfred & wife Rosemary Platana, his brother Edward Platana, his sisters Marguerite Platana, Annette & husband Peter Thornton, Monique Richardson, and Yvette & husband Robin Gutenberg. He will also be greatly missed by his many nephews, nieces and friends who loved my father very much. He will especially be missed by me, his daughter, Tracy Platana (Suskin).
Peter was loved by many, and his dry sense of humour and quick wit made him liked by most he met. Although the last few weeks for my dad had been difficult, as he battled a short time with cancer, I can say with confidence that my dad knew and felt how much his family and friends loved him. Dad had visitors around the clock and was well enough in spirits and determination that he got to spend quality time with his family, hang out with old and dear friends, visit with his son, and get to know his daughter far better than I think either of us had imagined. His last days were meaningful and full of love.
My dad loved history and westerns, and enjoyed his time gold mining. He loved his family over all things. He didn’t want for much and was content in the little things. I will miss him very much.
