Patricia Ellen Syverson (Nee Hudson)

December 1, 1940 — November 15, 2022

With great sadness, the family of Patricia Ellen Syverson (nee Hudson) announce her passing on November 15, 2022. Patricia passed peacefully in AgeCare Seton Long Term Care Centre, Calgary, AB at the age of 81 years after a very long battle with dementia.

Patricia was born on December 1, 1940, in St. Boniface, MB where her mother, the late Marjorie Ellen Hudson (nee Crooks), a born and raised Albertan, had relocated in the early days of the war. Patricia spent her young childhood in Ottawa while her mother worked for the federal government doing her part for the war effort. Patricia had fond memories of playing with the Governor General’s dogs on the grounds of Parliament Hill.

When the war was finally over, Patricia’s mother brought her home to Alberta where they settled in Calgary and Patricia spent the rest of her life. Throughout her education, Patricia worked very hard to become fluent in French. Her efforts paid off when after completing high school, this skill secured her a job with the CRA in Calgary. While working at the tax office, Patricia met her husband, Douglas Oral Syverson who was her constant companion, partner, and best friend until his passing in January 2016. Together Patricia and Doug have four daughters: Pamala Whittaker (the late Kirk Nymann) of Nanaimo, BC, Charlotte McIntyre (the late Robert) of Birch Hills, SK, Valerie Syverson of Calgary, AB and Kathryn Cable of Canberra, Australia. Along with her daughters, Patricia is survived by 10 grand children; Monica McIntyre, Ian McIntyre, Cassie Hiatt, Daniel Hiatt (Rebecca), David Hiatt (Emily), James McIntyre (Pam Ferguson), Tara Cable (Andrew Potrebica), Rachel Whittaker (Mitch Johnson), Chad Cable (Cassie), and Remy McIntyre and four great grandchildren; Elena Hiatt, Abigail Hiatt, Declan Potrebica, and Jackson Potrebica.

Patricia loved animals! She never met a critter she didn’t love and who didn’t love her. She always said it was a trait she came by naturally as her mother and grandmother had the same gift. Plants, gardening, growing the families produce brought her joy and kept her active. Her daughters and grandchildren have happy memories of Patricia singing primary songs as she taught them to mashed berries for jam, can fresh B.C. fruit, or peal carrots to freeze. Patricia very much enjoyed creative writing and was an avid reader. She read anything and everything she could get her hands on and especially enjoyed science fiction. She found comfort in her family reading to her when she no longer could.

Patricia and Doug joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1972. Over the years, Patricia participated in many ways within the church, and she truly loved participating in the Relief Society where she developed many dear friendships. Patricia had a strong, abiding testimony of our Saviour and the Great Plan of Happiness. What a joyous reunion it must have been when our mother joined Dad to continue their adventure together!

The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at AgeCare Seton 6th floor Brighton East for the tender, compassionate, loving care that was so generously given to our mother. Your kindness will always be remembered.

Special thanks to Teresa and everyone at Pierson’s Funeral Service for all the kind, patient support you have so graciously given.
