Paige Antonina Nickason, a courageous and indomitable spirit, passed away on April 8, 2026, at the Dr. Vernon Fanning Centre. Born on September 23, 1986, in Calgary, Paige’s life was marked by a strength and resilience that defined her journey from the very beginning.
Living with a rare genetic condition called NF2, Paige was a true warrior who faced numerous surgeries with unwavering bravery. It was because of this bravery that she became the first patient to undergo brain surgery performed by the pioneering robot neuroArm in 2008—a testament not only to advances in medical science but to Paige’s remarkable fortitude and trust in innovation.
Paige was known for her vibrant personality and wide-ranging passions. She delighted in cooking, especially Asian cuisine, filling her home and heart with the flavors and aromas she loved to create. Music was another cornerstone of her happiness, with a special affinity for Pink Floyd and The Tragically Hip. Her fascination with Alice in Wonderland extended beyond the story itself to a dedicated pursuit of rare collectibles that reflected her whimsical and unique spirit. An avid reader of true crime, she immersed herself in stories that intrigued her mind. Additionally, Paige’s embrace of tattoos and piercings spoke to her bold and expressive nature.
Paige is survived by her her parents, Robert &Teresa Nickason; She is survived by her sister, Natasha, brother, Michael; and her son, Emmit; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins; her cat, Max; and her cousin, Tara Sandoval who she called her 'twin'.
Paige’s life, though challenged by illness, was rich with love, passion, and an unyielding spirit. Her legacy of courage and individuality leaves an enduring imprint on all who knew her. She will be remembered not only for her groundbreaking medical journey but for the warmth and fierce spirit she shared with family and friends throughout her years.
