Owen Edward Ham was born in Swift Current, Sask., where he lived until he was a teen; he moved with his parents and four siblings to spend the remainder of his formative years in Medicine Hat, AB.
After serving some time in the Canadian Military, Owen set forth in life, discovering his love to fish, to hunt, and most enthusiastically – the love for the open road. He loved to hit the highway, whether it was hauling goods, racing cars, or on the back of his motorcycle with his favourite music, Owen found his passion.
As a young adult, he had his first son Daniel with Mary and he moved with his new family to Calgary, AB where he soon got married and had his second son, Cody. After becoming a single father, he spent the rest of his years as a skilful entrepreneur, starting his own business and showing his sons all that he knew. Owen was constantly looking to do things on his own terms and forge his own way and always keeping his two boys by his side (even on the road). He often said his greatest accomplishment in life was raising and loving his two sons. There was also the love Owen found for animals. He would often remind us that ‘dogs are much better than people’ and rescued many loved pets over the years which became part of the family.
Owen was adored by so many as he gave generously of both heart and home, anytime for someone in need. Owen will be remembered for his vivacious charisma and lust for life; he never backed down from a challenge and loved sharing his wisdom with anyone who would listen. Owen was surrounded by his closest family and friends in his final moments, succumbing to the effects of pancreatic cancer, peacefully asleep.
Owen is predeceased by his beloved father, Jerry Edward Ham, and his best friend Michael.
He will be missed and was deeply loved and survived by his two sons, Daniel Edward Ham (Breanna) and Cody Jerry Thomas Ham (Sara); his granddaughter Alexis; his mother Marie Louise Irene; his siblings Paul (Summer), Andre, Tommy Joe, and Tracey (Gerry); his nieces and nephews Jehremy, Jerry, Teresa, Sarah, Trey, Wyatt, Ronald and Scotty; his best friends Darrell and Karl; and his friend and ex-wife Mary.
A celebration of life will be held in his honour by his family, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that they be contacted for contributions towards the celebration of life.
