After a life richly lived and deeply loved, Meena passed peacefully with her family beside her on June 17, 2025, at the age of 88 years. She left the world just as she lived in it, surrounded by love, and with dignity and grace.
Born in Trinidad on December 13, 1936, Meena was a woman ahead of her time. With the hopes of her family on her shoulders, she traveled across the Atlantic at a young age to England, where she studied to become a nurse-a path of service that would shape her life and the lives of all those around her. In England, she met her first husband, and together they started a family before returning to Trinidad. From there, they emigrated to Canada, where she would build a new life not only for herself but for her entire family. One by one, she brought her parents and siblings to join her, ensuring they too would benefit from a new life in Canada.
A long career in nursing in Calgary followed, marked by dedication, compassion, and quiet strength. Even after retirement, Meena continued to care for others-tending her treasured garden and feeding her family and neighbors with home-cooked meals. Her home was her haven, her hands were always busy, and her heart always open.
Meena was more than a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother-she was the matriarch, the anchor, the storyteller, and the quiet force behind generations of strength and resilience. Meena (Nan) had a deep connection and loving relationship with her granddaughters, Alex and Kat. She was also a devoted member of the Bowness community and the Saint Barnabas Anglican Church, where she was a friend to many.
Meena is mourned by her husband, John; daughters Alison (Phil) and Natalie (Ross); grandchildren Alexandra (Wally), Katarina (Mark), Daniel, and Brooke; and a large, loving family of siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins all around the world. She is now with her beloved son Robert and her dear friend Ginny in eternal rest.
A service celebrating Meena's life will be held at St. Barnabas Anglican Church, 1407 - 7th Avenue N.W., Calgary, on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.
