Peace, Restful Peace.
Orville passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. He was a wonderful husband to Fran, father to stepsons Scott Fafard (Kim), Jeff Fafard (Amber), Gampa to Finn and Thane, and the best Grampa Walks to many family and friends' pets. In addition to these family members, he will be missed by several nieces, nephews, and sisters-in-law Leona Eby Nagy (Dean) and Margery Bell.
Orv was born in Didsbury, AB, and raised in Cremona, AB. After high school he joined the Royal Navy and served for 3 years, not bad for a prairie boy. When he returned to Calgary, he joined the Calgary Fire Department in 1965 as a firefighter first class working his way up to Deputy Chief when he retired serving 30 years on the job. He stated it was the best job anyone could ask for. During his time in the department, he studied hard for his Business Administration Diploma at MRC (now MRU).
Orv served 30 years as a Calgary Stampede volunteer with the Parade Committee and later with the Promotion Committee coming over with the Float. He also volunteered countless hours with Habitat for Humanity, and several other organizations. Orv was a great friend to so many and credit to the Westgate Community neighborhood, who lost a community activist, handyman and snow angel.
Orv' s love of golf was legendary, golfing three to four times a week with the VIP Membership which took him to so many golf courses throughout Calgary and surrounding areas. When he wasn't golfing, he was practicing! He even golfed up to the end of June this year. He was proud of his couple of 'holes in one' and the times he scored his age on the green more than once!
Husband, Father, Uncle, Volunteer and Friend, may you find your course in heaven and golf daily.
Fran, Jeff, Amber, Scott and Kim would like to thank all the wonderful friends and family who showed love and kindness throughout his final days. The Palliative Care support team, pharmacists and the Cancer team at the Arthur J.E. Child, thank you! Special thanks to Dr. Deanna Campbell.
As per Orv's wishes there will be no service, but the family will hold a Celebration of Life at a date to be announced.
