Ochoa, Pedro Antonio

February 23, 1942 — June 20, 2022

Pedro, also known lovingly as “Tito”, was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, friend, y hermano en Cristo. It was 7:30 a.m. on Monday, June 20, 2022, in Calgary, Alberta, when he left us to be with the Lord. He was 80 years old.

Pedro was born and raised in Central America, specifically, he spent his younger years in El Salvador and Guatemala. As a young adult, he made the courageous decision to leave Guatemala with his family during a time of civil war and genocide.  After going through a harrowing trip to the United States, he found support to bring himself and many members of his family to Canada as government sponsored refugees. Pedro lived the majority of his adult years in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Thanks to Pedro and Maribel Ochoa’s sacrifices, Canada is now a place that current and future generations of his family can proudly call home.

Throughout his life Pedro demonstrated a wide range of interests and abilities. In his home countries of Guatemala and El Salvador he enjoyed seasonal jobs as a teacher, police officer, political activist, and field corporal. In Canada, he pursued English as a second language, found employment in mechanics and spent many years preaching while running his own business, Janitor You Can Trust. Everyone that knew Pedro would agree that he was a very hard worker, and he took great pride in his work ethic.  As a gifted musician, Pedro also took pleasure in performing in front of small or large audiences. His passion for singing, song writing and playing musical instruments will be hugely missed. Pedro is most known for his impressive vocals and excellence in playing the guitar and mandolin. Many precious memories of Pedro involve him performing and brightening the room he was in with his lovely melodies. Pedro’s love languages were gift giving and acts of service. He was constantly singing or doing tangible things like dropping off food or thoughtful items and fixing things to show people he cared. This is how he wants to be remembered; as someone who loved God, his family and loved to play his guitar and sing for the people he cherished in his heart.

Pedro is survived by his children, Mario Ochoa, Pedro Jr. (Leonor) Ochoa, Oliver (Maria) Ochoa, Mayleni Ochoa, Carlos Ochoa, Yanira (Dionicio) Ochoa-Corado, Dulman (Mandy) Ochoa, Brisa Ochoa, Rudy (Chelsey) Ochoa; grandchildren, Rebecca Ochoa, Sarahy (Richie) Madrid, Erick Ochoa, Jessenia Ochoa, Edwin Ochoa, Zoila (Curtis) North, Eli Mejia, Daisy Ochoa, Ana Ochoa, Ester Mejia, Jasmine Ochoa, Diego Ochoa, Angelina Ochoa, Lorenzo Ochoa, Esperanza Ochoa, Alejandro Palma Corado, Teresa Ochoa, Camila Corado, Nikolas Ochoa, Sofia Ochoa, Santiago Ochoa, Brooklynn Ochoa; 13 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ana Solis; nephew, Estilfor Garcia;  niece, Karla Garcia; great-nephew, Amir Garcia; and his wife of 38 years, Maribel Ochoa. Pedro was predeceased by his mother, Amanda Hernandez and father, Leonardo Ochoa; sisters, Maria Antonia Ochoa, Cristina Ochoa; brother, Juan Antonio; grandson, Caleb Mejia; and uncle, Alejandro Ochoa.

Dear Papa/Tito, you will be missed immensely,
