Norma Leavitt passed away March 24, 2026 at the age of 96.
She is survived by her children Randal Leavitt (Connie), Denise Murray, Kathleen Nelson, James Dean Leavitt (Debbie) and Stephen Leavitt; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her sister Sandra Sirrine; and many relatives and friends.
Norma was predeceased by her husband Dr. Clark T. Leavitt (2018); her brothers and sisters Max Bullock, Elaine Kiester, Bob Bullock, Pat Sirrine and Cameron Bullock; and grandson Reed B. Nelson.
Norma was born in Lethbridge and raised in Barnwell, Alberta. After high school, she graduated from BYU with a degree in Home Economics. She married Clark on July 17, 1952 for time and eternity in the Alberta Temple (Cardston). They began their life together while Clark completed his medical training in Edmonton, AB, Rochester, MN, and Los Angeles, CA before settling in Calgary in 1967. Norma loved being a wife and mother, and was a remarkable cook and homemaker.
Norma brought enthusiasm, passion and zest to her wide ranging interests. She loved all things cultural including the symphony, opera and theatre. Norma enjoyed the Mount Royal Ladies Club, the Calgary Medical Wives Club and Book Club. She was very proud of her Bullock heritage and was an active member of Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was a sports enthusiast, passionate about traveling, especially to Waterton, Shuswap Lake and Desert Hot Springs. As a member of the Glencoe Club, she played tennis and badminton for many years. She also participated in a hiking club for nearly 3 decades. As a passionate life long learner, rarely found without a book in her hands, she enjoyed the conversations at her book club. She was generous with her time and talents, volunteering with the CPO and the Glenbow Museum as a Bosun. The Leavitt home was open to all, where those that entered enjoyed exquisite meals, interesting conversation and lots of laughter. One of her treasured accomplishments was writing a Canadian bestselling cookbook "Eat Your Heart Out" with her sisters.
Norma was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in numerous callings over the years including Relief Society and Primary presidents, co-director of the nativity pageant with her husband, and manager of the church book store in its early days. All who had the privilege of knowing her were better because of it. She will be deeply missed.
