Noreen Pamela Chambers

January 24, 1941 — November 26, 2011

Noreen, the eldest child of Doris Eileen McCarron (nee Milne) and Geoffrey Norman Chambers, was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Noreen was survived by her sister Laurie (Norm) Chambers; her nieces Donna Gail (Terry) Besaw (nee Meehan), Kareen Prairie Chambers (Kurt) and her nephew Geoffrey Kenneth (Tracey) Meehan; her great nieces Kyley and Dawn, great nephews Nicholas, Chris and Cole; her cherished cat Chester as well as many cousins and close friends. She was predeceased by her grandparents, John Edward and Agnes Selina (nee Lloyd) Chambers and James and Jessie Lillian Milne (nee Leckie). She was also predeceased by her parents, sister Vicki Lynn Meehan, brother Kenneth Norman Chambers. Noreen moved to Calgary from Winnipeg in 1961. She spent most of her working life with Home Oil in various capacities, finally as a communications specialist. She left Anderson Exploration in March 2001 to enjoy retirement. She served in the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves from May 1962 to December 1974, attained the rank of Major and was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration. She was called out for full time service for one year (67/68) which was served at Currie Barracks Reception & Dispatch centre. Noreen taught first aid to the Boy Scouts and refresher courses at some Home Oil Field Offices. She was involved in launching the pilot Beaver Program in Calgary. She was Chairman of the Alberta Family Histories Society for three years and taught genealogy to various groups. A highlight in her life was volunteering with the 1988 Winter Olympics Games in Calgary. Noreen was an avid reader, computer buff and genealogist. She loved animals and had many pets over the years. Because she believed in reincarnation, the love and enjoyment of friends, and that people should celebrate the life, not mourn the death, she has requested that no Funeral Services be held. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made in Noreen’s name to the Calgary Humane Society 4455 – 110th AVE SE, Calgary, Alberta T2C 2T7.
