Morris Kopan

Feb 19, 1940 — Jul 4, 2026

Calgary, Alberta

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that on Saturday, July 4, 2026, Morris Kopan, beloved husband of Bella Kopan of Calgary, Alberta passed away at the age of 86 years.

Morris was born on Monday, February 19, 1940, in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, beginning his journey that would foreshadow a life of quiet strength, deep integrity, and enduring love for those around him.

Raised on his family’s farm in Insinger, Saskatchewan, Morris’s younger years were shaped by the rugged beauty of the land and the values instilled by honest work and close-knit family ties. Later, the family moved to Yorkton where Morris completed his schooling and began to carve out his own path in the world.

It was in Yorkton that Morris met Bella Krawetz, the woman who would become his beloved wife and lifelong companion. Together, they were married in 1962, beginning a partnership built on mutual respect, laughter, and steadfast devotion. The arrival of their son Kel filled their lives with joy. Soon after, the family moved to Calgary, Alberta, where Morris and Bella welcomed their daughter Lisa, embracing a new chapter amid the wide skies and open spirit of Alberta.

Morris found true happiness in the great outdoors. An avid hunter, camper, and fisherman, he relished every opportunity to step into nature’s embrace. It was not just the thrill of the hunt or the peace of fishing that drew him in, but the company he cherished most-buddies like Norm, whose friendship endured freezing tent trailer adventures in temperatures of minus forty degrees that would send most back indoors. Those expeditions became even more meaningful when son Kel joined the group, strengthening bonds between father and son as they braved the elements together, swapping stories and sharing quietly joyful moments only found beside a crackling campfire or under starlit prairie skies.

Morris’s love for his family was evident in everything he did. His pride in Kel and Lisa was obvious to all who knew him. He treasured the time spent together-whether gathered around the family table in laughter or side by side in shared silences that spoke volumes.

Having made Calgary his home for so many years, Morris wove himself into the fabric of the community. Here, he fostered friendships old and new, holding close those simple pleasures that made life rich: a good conversation, the warmth of family gatherings, and the solace of nature’s embrace.

Though Morris has left this world, his memory will linger in the gentle quiet of dawn, and in the soft laughter of loved ones remembering shared adventures and stories retold. His legacy is one of steadfast love, humble strength, and an enduring reminder to savor both the journey and the bonds forged along the way.

Morris Kopan resided in Calgary until his passing, leaving behind a deep sense of loss and, above all, gratitude for a life so well lived. His spirit lives on in those who loved him and in the countless memories that will be cherished forever. Eternal Memories!

Besides his loving wife Bella of 63 years, Morris is survived by his children, Kelvin Kopan and his wife Debbie of Calgary, Lisa Kopan and her husband Dave Mitchell of Calgary; six grandchildren Chris (Tasha), Karly (Keith), Richard, Tyson (Jamie) all of Calgary, Jade (Josh) of Lethbridge, Alberta, Joelle (Tys) of Calgary; and six great-grandchildren Avery, Jaden, Madi, Ben, Westyn, Anika.

No formal service will be held. Cremation has taken place at Foothills Crematorium.
