Michael Hugh Howell-Jones of Calgary died on March 13, 2024, aged 75 years.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him for his irrepressible sense of humour and free spirit.
Born in Guildford, Surrey, UK, he emigrated to Calgary in 1967, but never lost his love of all things British and especially the music scene of the Sixties. After studying photography at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, he began a career in photography and multi-media, first in Calgary, then for many years in Vancouver. He is predeceased by his parents, Hugh and Ellen Howell-Jones, and by his two younger brothers, Andrew and David. He is survived by his daughters Robin and Katie, his brother Keith, sister Margaret, nephews Jonathan and Alexis, and nieces Jessie and Ellen.
Michael enjoyed many friendships with the residents at Cedars Villa Extendicare in Calgary, where he lived during his final year. Special thanks go to Jason and Cheryl, who were very good to Michael, and who brightened his life with their friendship. Michael’s family extends their warmest thanks to all the wonderful staff at Cedars Villa for their care.
A memorial gathering will be held in Calgary in the Spring.
