Merlie (Elsie Muriel) Armstrong

August 16, 1911 — December 29, 2015

After a long life, well lived, Merlie passed into the presence of the Lord and her heavenly home on December 29, 2015. Merlie was born in Chesley, Ontario in 1911 and came west with her family to Wetaskawin, Alberta in 1912. She was the second youngest of nine children and is predeceased by her parents, Margaret and David Armstrong; her sisters, Ethel Diehl, Olive McEwen, Clara Barker and Stella Armstrong and her brothers, Ray, Joe, Bill and Jack Armstrong and all their spouses. Merlie was also predeceased by a large group of friends and seven nieces and nephews, David Armstrong, Gordon Diehl, Mel and Stan McEwen, Dorothy Flaxman, Margie and Joan Armstrong. Merlie lived to see five generations of family and leaves to mourn a host of nieces, nephews and their families. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes can be made to the missionary work of First Alliance Church, 333 Edgepark Blvd. NW, Calgary, AB T3A 4K4. A Memorial Service will be held for Merlie at Pierson’s Forest Lawn Chapel (4121 – 17 Avenue SE, Calgary) on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 3:00 pm. A family graveside service will be held earlier in the day. Messages of condolence may be forwarded to the family at www.piersons.ca.
