Mavis Dorothy Gulutzan (née Latimer)

March 26, 1948 — June 25, 2024

Calgary, Alberta

Mavis Dorothy Gulutzan, 76, of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 after a re-occurrence of cancer. Mavis was born on March 26, 1948 to Beatrice and James Latimer in Tisdale, SK. Mavis pursued a career in hair dressing and set up her business with her close friend and business partner, Marion Pearson in Hudson Bay, SK. M&M Beauty Salon was in business for over 40 years and "The Shop" was a familiar place to many family and friends.

Mavis and Eugene married and raised their four children Kim, Laurie, Glen and Jennifer in Hudson Bay. She was the primary care giver for her sister Margaret, who is a big part of our family. Over the years, Mavis and Eugene liked to travel and enjoyed yearly trips to Vegas and to see their children. In 2020, they decided to move to Calgary to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Mavis loved to bake and cook, and there was never a shortage of baked goods around. She had the biggest heart and loved and cherished her children and grandchildren. Her determination and caring ways were unbounded. We all take a piece of her strength with us to carry on.

She will be forever in our hearts.

Mavis will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Eugene Gulutzan; 4 children, Kim Gulutzan of Calgary, Laurie Gulutzan (Leslie Martin) of Orinda, California, Glen (Nicole) Gulutzan of Calgary, Jennifer (James) Viau of Calgary; 12 grandchildren, Kyle, Dominique, Xaivery, Raina (Robert), Emma, Brielle, Landen, Ruby, Jullian, Grace, Jake,  Brayden; brother, James (Marilyn) Latimer of Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan; sister, Margaret Latimer of Calgary, Alberta; brother-in-law, Clifford Gulutzan of Hudson Bay; and all of the Latimer, Isfeld and Gulutzan nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Beatrice and James Latimer; and sisters, Jean Bakowski and Lorna Latimer.

Thank you to Dr. Omar Khan and the Tom Baker Cancer Center Unit 47 nurses and staff for their tremendous care, compassion, and guidance.

In Mavis' honour, we ask that you look for ways to lift people up and be a positive light for anyone in need.

Love ya Mom!
