Mary Rose Gibson (née Kirk)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Rose Gibson, of Calgary, Alberta. Mary was a dedicated Administrative Assistant for the City of Calgary for over 20 years working for Fleet Services and the Calgary City Police. 

Mary was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia to parents Patricia and Kenneth Kirk. She started her career in Halifax, N.S. then resided in Australia before settling in Calgary. She longed to return to her adopted city and country; Sydney, Australia. 

One of Mary's greatest accomplishments was raising her son, Paul, whom she loved dearly. She was thrilled that Paul and Amanda made her a grandmother with the arrival of Gracie Rose in 2023. Mary's greatest passion was her love for music which prompted her to attend a multitude of concerts worldwide. To name a few: Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Madonna, U2, Elton John, Rush, Prince, David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen and Lady GaGa. Her other loves included Art, photography, an affinity for European culture and a good glass of 'vino rosso'.  Mary was witty and had a great sense of humour which will be sorely missed. She was an avid animal lover and an advocate for animal rights. 

Mary is survived by her son, Paul (Amanda) Gibson of Bendigo, Australia; granddaughter Gracie Rose Gibson, Bendigo, Australia; mother, Patricia Kirk of Halifax, NS; siblings: Heather Aberdeen (Sandy Aberdeen, deceased), Calgary, AB; Amy Kirk of Toronto, Ontario; Micheal Kirk, High River, AB; Kenny Kirk of Halifax, NS; nieces and nephews: Laura, Katie, Liam, Ceilidh and Adrianna. Mary was predeceased by her father, Kenneth Kirk (August 2018).

A Memorial Service will be held for Mary at Pierson's Funeral Service - Forest Lawn Chapel, (4121 17 Avenue SE Calgary, Alberta) on Monday, August 12, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. MT.
