Martin Percival Mason Sr.

Martin was born on March 2, 1949, in the parish of Clarendon, Jamaica, where he spent his childhood surrounded by family, community, and the values that would guide him throughout his life. From an early age, he displayed a remarkable talent for building and creating with his hands. His passion for craftsmanship was evident in everything he did and would become the foundation of his life's work.

In 1970, Martin made the courageous decision to move to Calgary, Alberta, in pursuit of greater opportunities to develop his skills in building and steel working. Through hard work, dedication, and determination, he established a successful career with Prudential Steel, where he faithfully worked for 40 years before retiring. His strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment earned him the respect of his colleagues and everyone who had the privilege of working alongside him.

Building and Steel working was never just a job for Martin; it was his passion. He had a remarkable gift for turning ideas into reality, creating beautiful and lasting things with precision, care, and pride. Whether he was working on a large project or helping family and friends with home improvements, Martin approached every task with patience, skill, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. His craftsmanship lives on in the many projects he completed and in the lives he touched through his generosity.

Beyond his career, Martin was also a dedicated Tae Kwon Do instructor, generously sharing his knowledge and passion for martial arts with countless students over the years. He believed that Tae Kwon Do was about more than physical strength; it was about discipline, respect, perseverance, and self-confidence. As an instructor, he inspired and mentored many students, leaving a lasting impact both inside and outside the training hall.

Above all else, Martin's greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted and loving husband whose steadfast love and support formed the foundation of his home. He was a proud father who led by example, teaching the importance of honesty, hard work, kindness, and perseverance. As a brother, he was dependable, caring, and always willing to lend a helping hand. As a grandfather, he cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren, creating treasured memories through his wisdom, warmth, gentle humour, and unconditional love.

Martin will be remembered as a man of strength, He lived a life defined by hard work, service to others. His quiet strength, generous spirit, and loving heart touched the lives of everyone who knew him.

Martin will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 37 years, Sonia Mason; children, Martin Jr. (Shakeyra) Mason of Airdrie, Alberta, Michael (Hermela) Mason of Chestermere, Alberta, Sophia Taylor of Jamaica, Sophia James-Parker of Chestermere, Alberta; grandchildren, Orian Mason, Malakai Mason of Chestermere, Alberta, Elias Mason, Ezra Mason, Kaylah Parker of Airdrie, Alberta, Randy Frasier of Toronto, Ontario, Celina Parker, Jehmiah Parker of the United Stated of America, Daniel Johnson, Aneita Mccalla, Trysan Mccalla, Neika Rankine, Kyle Roberts, Charm Frazier, Tasheika, Tyrick of Jamaica; sister, Joan Kerr of Missouri, U.S.A.; nieces and nephews from England, Rose, Doreen, Martin, Sandra, Stephanie; and nephew Phillip of Missouri, U.S.A.

Although he has passed from our sight, Martin's legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply, the students he mentored, the friends whose lives he enriched, and the countless lives he influenced through his example. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
