Marnie Swinehart

Marnie Swinehart (nee Myers), was born May 27, 1936, to Frederick and Lucy Myers in Loon Lake, Saskatchewan. The family moved to Dawson Creek, BC where Marnie and her seven siblings enjoyed the growing small town. Marnie excelled at softball; played basketball (at 5’0) and volleyball; took ice skating to a new level as a speed skater, and especially enjoyed 5-pin bowling.

In 1957, Marnie moved to Estevan, SK where she met Eric, the love of her life and husband of 47 years. Marnie and Eric married in January 1959 then moved to Calgary with their children in 1961.

In 1968, the family purchased their Calgary home where Marnie resided for the rest of her life. Marnie worked the evening shift at the Royal Bank of Canada as a data entry clerk. Despite arriving home at 3 am, Marnie was always up with the children every morning for breakfast. Later, after the children were grown, Marnie took part time work at the neighbourhood Shell Station. She enjoyed the days engaged with friends and neighbours while earning a little “pin money.”

Marnie visited regularly with her nieces and nephews and remained actively engaged in the local community. She delighted in “besting the boys” at Norwegian Whist, skating with Eric, and proudly wore a shirt stating “Born to Shop.”

Marnie was predeceased by her husband Eric in 2006, and over the years her siblings, Lester, Viola, Elmer, Lance, Jay, Doreen, and Mary.

Marnie leaves to mourn her children, Mrs. Karey T. Mayers of Claresholm, Lance (Kathleen) Hartwell of Calgary; and her adored grandchildren, Tyler, Alyssa and Austin. Marnie's many extended family members and friends will miss her laughter, her wit, and her caring nature.

On May 15, 2024, in the familiarity of her own home, Marnie Swinehart completed her journey and joined Eric beyond the confines of the earth.
