Mark Peterson passed away on Monday, March 30, 2026 at home surrounded by his family the age of 75 years. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 55 years Betty; Their three children Jamie Bowman (Gavin) of O'Fallon, MO, Kaleen Harding (Dan) of Lethbridge and Darus Peterson (Cal Peterson) of Calgary; four grandchildren Jana Gibbs (Tracy), Mikayla Moran (Kincade), Sarah Bowman and Caden Harding; and two great-grandchildren: Aisling and Rowan. Mark is also survived by his sisters and brother Vicki Peterson (Ken Gabourie), Trudy Nyhus (Glen), William "Bill" Kinnunen (Debbie) and Tammy Kinnunen; and a large extended family and many friends.
Mark was born in Cardston and moved to Calgary with his family at age 9. After graduating from Western Canada High School, he began working in the printing world where he eventually became a Pre-press Graftsman. He lived and worked through an amazing period of time as that profession evolved into what it is today. Mark met and married the love of his life Betty Waldeck and they settled in Calgary, moving to Sundance where they raised their children. Mark was involved in their lives, coaching soccer and softball, and served in Cubs and Scouts. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed their time camping and hiking. When the kids were young, he helped them with their paper routes, continuing delivering papers long after they moved on to other jobs and pursuits. Those early morning starts were good exercise and therapy for him for 20 years. Family time was important, especially playing some ruthless card games. House projects were a big part of Mark's life, always a big focus until they were completed. Some of Mark and Betty's best memories were made as they enjoyed traveling together, including interesting trips into Asia as well as Europe. We will miss dad's quirky and ever present sense of humour. He was a man of integrity and he has left a wonderful legacy.
