Marjorie Jean Madsen

Marjorie Jean Madsen (nee Congdon), 77, of Calgary, died peacefully at home on July 4, 2025.

She was born on May 5, 1948, to Albert Edward Congdon and Elizabeth Patricia Congdon (nee Forster) in Daysland, Alberta.

Marjorie attended grade school in Heisler, Alberta and high school in Daysland, Alberta. After high school she attended the Calgary General Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1970. While there she met the love of her life, Erik Madsen, at a St. Patrick’s Day Dance.

Marjorie married Erik September 12, 1970, in Forestburg, Alberta. They have two children Rachel Jean (Pradip) and Timothy Erik and two grandchildren Arjun Siddartha and Tulip Bianca.

Marjorie worked as an RN at the Edmonton General Hospital. On the arrival of their children she became a stay-at-home mom until the children were self-sufficient. After taking a nursing refresher course, she returned to work part time at the University of Alberta Hospital and the Edmonton General.

Even as a child, Marjorie had a passion for sewing and enjoyed that as long as she was able. Marjorie also volunteered at various organizations that supported children who were born to parents that abused alcohol and/or drugs. She was a firm believer that the best solution was to educate the parents before the children were born and took several courses to help address the issue.

Marjorie and Erik loved to travel and made several trips to Europe (particularly Denmark), Hawaii, Jamaica, California (San Francisco, Monterey, Solvang, Los Angeles and San Diego). She also joined Erik when he was working in Akron, Ohio, Sacramento, California, and Houston, Texas and visited Rachel while she was living in Madeley, England.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Edward Congdon (2002) and Elizabeth Patricia Congdon (2024)

Funeral services will be held on July 19, 2025, at 2 PM at the Kingdom Hall in Midnapore (270 Midpark Way SE, Calgary, AB T2X 1J6)

Interment will be held privately by the family.
