Marilynn Taverner passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at the Foothills Country Hospice at the age of 77 years. She will be dearly missed by her husband Len Galenza of Diamond Valley; two sons Todd Taverner (Anna) and Tim Taverner (Laura); Grandchildren Connor Taverner, Cameron Roper (Amanda), Maeghan Taverner, Delsin Taverner and Julian Stambene; Step children Angie Galenza (Jeff Peterson) and Robbie Galenza (Norm MacDonald); and Step grandchildren Brandon and Erik Peterson. Marilynn is also survived by her sisters and brother Judy Wenger (Ross), Pat Benbow and Randy Benbow (Yvonne); and many nieces and nephews.
Marilynn was born in Edmonton and raised in Drumheller and Calgary. After High School, she attended the University of Alberta and then SAIT. She married and turned her attention to her family, dedicating her time to her boys and their lives. During these years, she was an integral part in all aspects of the successful family business. She was a competitive curler and a gifted artist. After the end of her first marriage, she met Len Galenza and they began their life together. Once retired, they spent 10 wonderful years full-time in their motorhome, glamping from coast to coast in North America, returning to the Calgary area in the summers. One of her favourite destinations was Vancouver Island, which became a second home to them. As well as her passion for traveling, she loved nature in all its forms, painting and her beloved dogs. She enjoyed a good meal and a glass of wine. She was also generous with her time volunteering with the Diamond Valley Meals on Wheels. She will be missed for her friendly nature, kindness, all round wit, devotion to her best friend and partner Len, and her family.
At Marilynn's request, no service will be held. After cremation, her cremated remains will be inurned in the Queen's Park Mausoleum beside her parents. If friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation towards Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis or the Foothills Country Hospice.
