Margaret Ann Witwer

April 29, 1948 — November 1, 2022

It is with great sadness that I share the passing of my beautiful mother, Margaret Ann Witwer, who left us on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at the age of 74.

She was born in Vermilion, Alberta, and throughout her life she called many places home - Killam, Edmonton, Yellowknife, Rocky Mountain House - before settling in the Millrise neighborhood of Calgary in 1990. She loved her home there as well as the community around it.

My mom had an adventurous spirit and a true love of travel. Over the years she explored many remarkable places, and I was fortunate to share several of those journeys with her - Panama, Belize, Mexico, Greece, Turkey, Croatia, and the Czech Republic among them.

She also visited the United Kingdom, Scotland, Germany, Portugal, several U.S. states, and other destinations. Before she left us too soon, we were planning a trip to South Africa, a place I know she would have loved to have visited.

She also built a meaningful and accomplished career in accounting, holding senior positions throughout her professional life. While working full-time, she earned her CGA designation in 2001 at the age of 53 - an achievement she was incredibly proud of, and rightfully so.

She was the most wonderful mother, a dedicated professional, and a woman who embraced life with resilience and warmth. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughter, Tara Hannan, of Galveston, Texas, USA; granddaughter, Kristen Witwer of Houston, Texas, USA; siblings, Linda (Doug) Irons of Calgary, Alberta, David (Donna since passed away March 3, 2025) Witwer of Taber, Alberta; Doug Witwer of Swan Hills, Alberta; Gordon (Cheryl) Witwer of Edmonton, Alberta, and Barry Witwer of Burnaby, British Columbia. She was predeceased by her mother Clara Witwer (March 19, 2011), father David Witwer (August 15, 1970), brother Neil Witwer (October 20, 1986), and sister-in-law, Sherrell Christensen (July 23, 2021).
