Manuel Emilio Castro

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Manuel Emilio Castro on October 3, 2015, at the age of 71. Manuel was born in Candelaria, Pico, Azores, on March 8, 1944. Manuel was an extraordinary husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed by his wife Rosa of Calgary; his daughters, Paula of Calgary and Sally (Dean) of Wellington, New Zealand; his grandchildren Savannah, Avielle, Vincent, Ashley, and soon to be grandchild number 5; extended family in Canada, U.S.A., and Portugal, not to mention the many close friends he acquired over the years. Manuel was predeceased by his first wife Maria in 1983. Manuel was a lively character who loved laughter and was able to find the humor in everything. He enjoyed tending to his garden, making his homemade wine, and loved spending time at the Associacao Filarmonica Portuguesa De Calgary where he played a huge part in the Portuguese community here in Calgary. Manuel blessed and enriched the lives of all who knew him, and will be forever missed. There will be a prayer service for Manuel held at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 4747 30 Street S.E., Calgary, on the evening of Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 7pm. Manuel’s Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 4747 30 Street S.E Calgary, on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at 10am. Rev. Francisco Alberto Pereira Silva and Rev. Clauber Pereira Lima will be presiding. The family would like to send a special thanks to the doctors and staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, doctors and staff at the Foothills Hospital, and the doctors and staff at the Southwood Hospice.
