Lucille (Lucy) Blaxall, nee Matkin, born October 28, 1929, died December 17, 2022, in Rodez, France, while visiting family and friends. Lucy is predeceased by her parents, husband, and siblings. Lucy is survived by her children Shauna Hunter (Rob), Norris Blaxall, Melanie Walthall, Luanna Schmelter (Jeff), Burns Blaxall, Lisa Foggin (Rod), and grandchildren Sarah Robertson (Christian), Brad Hunter (Angie), Krista Emrich (TJ), Josh Hunter (Maddy), Adam, Jacob, and Michael Walthall, Mallin, Maya, and Hayden Blaxall, Kira Schmelter, and 14 great grandchildren.
Lucy was born in Magrath, Alberta, to Charlie and Ireta Matkin. She married her high school sweetheart Jim, on July 15, 1954. She enjoyed a brief career teaching elementary school until she decided to stay home with her children and be a Homemaker, ensuring the house they lived in felt like a home. Family was important to her. She was a skilled seamstress and sewed many things for her family and others. Over the years, Lucy enjoyed a life of service not only to her family, but to many different organizations, some of which include The Calgary Philharmonic Ladies League, Heritage Park, the Lung Cancer Association, and the Heart and Stroke Association. Lucy was an accomplished pianist, and once all her children had entered school, she taught piano for over twenty years. Lucy was highly engaged in her church, serving in various capacities. Her favorite way of serving was generally anonymous. Most notably, Lucy was well-known for her cookies, which she shared generously.
She is described by her children and grandchildren as: always up for fun, with a deep love of the outdoors and mountains, a quick smile, and for being lively, loving, supportive, engaging, creative, optimistic, always looking out for other people’s needs, and being a stalwart and loyal friend.

A favorite Lucy memory of mine is going to the Blaxall home after seminary in the morning and always having a hot breakfast. Lucy made sure everyone was looked after and was happy she did not have a dishwasher! She wanted people to visit and bond while doing dishes – I guess she was a genius too! Love and miss you Lucy💝

I want to pay a tribute to both Aunt Lucy and Uncle Jim for the wonderful kindness they showed to my family-to my as a young girl and especially to their unfailing visits to my folks in their later years before they passed away. I loved them both dearly. I pray that all of you children and grandchildren will feel them close to you as you honor them now and as you live your life.

Lucy was full of fun. I happily tagged along with the Blaxall Family in my youth. I remember hiking IN Red Rock Canyon/Waterton National Park, always available gingersnap cookies, piano lessons, yummy pancake breakfast on a Saturday morning with warm homemade syrup, carpooling to and from gynmastics and swim lessons. I remember Lucy with a happy countenance and a smile for all. I can see her at the door saying goodbye and saying “See you in the funnies!” That was just her fun way. So I say to Lucy — “see you in the funnies!” . . for she is there before me. I hope Lucy and my Mom are enjoying their almost lifelong friendship again.

Blaxall Family: So sorry that we are unable to attend the funeral of your dear mother, grandmother and great grandmother. We have appreciated our association with her and your family. May you all know that she has lived a good life and that can now be at peace and with her dear husband, Jim. Take care and go forward with your lives so that you can be with her again.
