Lorraine Nancy Mcgowan

November 11, 1939 — January 24, 2023

Lorraine (the Bird) McGowan passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, January 24, 2023. She was 83 years of age and lived everyday.

Lorraine grew up in Lake Louise and Banff and considered the mountains her home. In her adult life, she spent many years in Calgary and Edmonton.

Growing up, Lorraine had a passion to help and always wanted to be a nurse. In her 40’s She went back to school, obtaining her high school diploma and accomplishing her goal of becoming a registered Nurse.

Lorraine had many interests and an enthusiasm for life. She always had a number of things on the go at any point in time. Throughout her life, She loved to get together with people to enjoy some laughter. She spent many long summers enjoying the lake life in British Columbia and was ” Screeched in” as an honorary Newfoundlander.

One of her super powers was that she was a “Dog whisperer”. She spent many years training people to train their dogs in the 1960’s and 1970’s. She was also an avid sewer, knitter and embroiderer. Lorraine was quite gifted at whatever she put her mind to. Somehow she always figured out how to make things happen the way she wanted them to. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Lorraine is survived by her children, Tracy (Keith), Grant (Rikki), and Ross; her grandchildren, Paul (Lynsey), Mark, Meghan and Steve; and her great grandchildren Rylie and Rocco.

A celebration of life will be held in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the MS society of Canada or other charity of your choice.
