It is with great sadness that the family of Latjor Tuel announce his passing on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at the age of 41 years.

Late Latjor Kuony Tuel Kuet was born on May 25

, 1980 in Malakal, South Sudan. He was a beloved son of late Cpt. Kuony Tuel Kuet and Rebecca Aker Akol. Latjor was shot and killed by Calgary Police on February 19

th

, 2022.

Late Latjor was a loving father, uncle, cousin, brother, son and a valuable member of the South Sudanese Community in Calgary. Latjor was a man with a big heart, humbled, outgoing, friendly and loved by all members of his community. He was fun to be around, full of humor and laughter. Therefore, will dearly be missed greatly!

Late Latjor is survived by two (2) beautiful daughters, Nyalinglat LatJor and  Nyanchiew Latjor Kuony; his beloved mother and seven (7) siblings namely, Chuol Kuony Tuel, Nyatuoy Kuony Tuel, Malakal Kuony Tuel, Themar Kuony Tuel, Nyatoang Kuony Tuel, Nyanhial Kuony Tuel and Lim Kuony Tuel. Latjor’s father has other three (3) wives besides Latjor’s biological mother. Latjor is survived by all of them and other step siblings.

Late Latjor was one of the Lost Boys of Sudan and experienced disruptions, suffering and war during childhood. Despite these disruptions, Latjor started school in Leer Primary School in the 1980’s up to the 3

rd

grade. His study was interrupted by civil war in Sudan and he fled to Ethiopia with other unaccompanied minors (The Lost Boys of Sudan).

Latjor resumed studying in late 1980’s through 1990’s in Punyido Refugee Camp in Ethiopia where he managed to finished primary and secondary education. Late Latjor migrated to Canada 20 years ago as a refugee looking for opportunities. It is with great sadness to acknowledge that he was shot and killed by Police in questionable circumstances.

He was a hard working man and an amazing man with a big heart; who would  work  hard to provide for both his family in Canada and South Sudan A man dedicated to his community known to many as some who inspired joy to those around him. He was someone who loved to make people smile. He could put a smile on your face even if you were having your worst day.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at Country Hills Crematorium & Funeral Services (11995 16 St NE, Calgary, AB) on Friday, April 8, 2022 from 5:00-9:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated the following day on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Holy Trinity Church (1525 45 St SE, Calgary, AB) at 1:00pm with burial to follow.
