Larry John Halyk

May 27, 1954 — May 17, 2026

Calgary, Alberta

Larry John Halyk passed away on May 17, 2026, at the age of 71.

Larry lived a full life—one that may have appeared small to some, but to him, it was deeply his own and meaningful. His journey was not always easy, yet it was lived with resilience, individuality, and a quiet strength that carried him through many seasons.

Throughout his life, Larry was a man who valued connection in his own way. He had a grounded presence and a thoughtful nature. He lived simply, but with authenticity, always staying true to who he was. He had a great sense of humor and was often a lot of fun to be with. He carried a playful side that brought laughter to those around him—including his well-known “George,” a part of him that family and friends will always remember with a smile.

Those who knew him understood his loyalty, his steadiness, and the quiet depth behind his words and actions. He was kind, he was strong, he was real, and he loved hard. As time progressed, Larry grew into a steady, patriarchal presence in his family. He was someone you could turn to—whether you needed a brother, an uncle, or simply a friend. There was no barrier he would not open for those around him. He faced life, including his long battle with cancer, with determination and perseverance. Even through this battle, he continued to be kind and loving.

He shared a special and cherished bond with his lifelong friends, Gordie and Gloria, whom he held close to his heart, as well as his Aunt Margaret, who was a steady daily support. These relationships brought him great joy and companionship over the years.

Larry will live on in the lives of his sisters, Coleen and Colette, and his brothers, Richard and Jason. He will also be lovingly remembered by nieces and nephews, family and friends for his kindness, his generosity, and his sense of humor. These are the things that will continue to bring smiles for many years to come.

Through it all, his presence touched the lives of many in ways that will continue beyond his passing.

He will be missed .
