Julius Nelson Klyne

July 16, 1935 — January 29, 2026

Airdrie, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Nelson Julius Klyne on January 29, 2026 at the age of 90 surrounded by his loving family. We would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at the Didsbury Hospital as well as Peter Lougheed Hospital for providing the excellent care for our father.

Dad will be lovingly missed by his 5 children Wayne, Joanne (Mike), Maureen (Lynne), Sandra, Randy (Tammy) and his grand children Jason, Jeremy, Melissa, Chayton and Kolton. and his daughter Billie (Shawn), her children Andrea, Shawn, Kyle and Robert and his son Glen (Joan) and their children, Ashton, Curtis, Amanda, Allison and Rebecca. As well as his great grand children.

Dad is survived by his brother Ernest Klyne as well as his sister in-laws Dora Houlden, Frieda (Gordon) Hunt, Phyllis Arnfinson, and all of his nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dad was born to Julius and Alexina Klyne on July 16 1935 in Portage LaPrairie Manitoba. Dad grew up in St Ambroise with his parents and his 4 sisters and 5 brothers Eva, Dora, Bernice, Aurelia, Leonard, Raymond, Emile, Ernest and Jerry. In 1957 he married our mother Flora Lambert and started their life in Winnipeg MB and raised 5 children. He began his working life at Merchants Consolidated in shipping and receiving for 17 years and in 1972 he and mom made the decision to move to Calgary, Alberta where he upgraded his education and then entered trade school to become a welder. He worked for Jackson’s Welding and Sureway Metal for 25 years and retired in 1997 at the age of 62. He was very proud of the life he and mom provided for their family. He and mom spent their retirement years traveling and visiting family and enjoying their life playing bingo and going to the casino together before her passing in 2018. Dad continued his passion for playing in crib tournaments, and going to bingo as well as betting on the horses. He was very well known in his cribbage community as one of the best. Dad had a great sense of humour and his smile would light up a room as he loved to socialize with family and friends.

Dad took pride in his appearance and always dressed for the occasion. He was very proud and meticulous about his vehicles over the years making sure they were in tip top shape. He enjoyed watching his favourite sports on tv which included hockey, baseball, wrestling, football, and curling. He loved to listen to country music and every once in a while you could see his feet tapping to the Red River Jig which is part of his Metis heritage. This was the kind music that was played at barn dances growing up that he and his brothers were well known for as jiggers.
