Judy Ann Lacquement, née Citkowski, passed away peacefully in Calgary, Alberta, on September 2, 2026, while listening to her favourite music and having her beloved scripture read aloud to her.
Born on June 6, 1934, in Daysland, Alberta, Judy was one of four children born to Mike and Agnes Citkowski. She grew up on the family farm, where she developed the strong work ethic that remained with her throughout her life. Around the age of 20, she moved to Calgary, where she married and welcomed three children. In the years that followed, she endured the heartbreaking loss of two of her children at very young ages. Rather than diminishing her spirit, those sorrows deepened her faith and strengthened her love of God.
Judy’s life was marked by service, perseverance, and care for others. The discipline and determination she learned in her early years prepared her well for a demanding career in nursing, where she gained extensive medical knowledge. After leaving nursing, she brought that same dedication and skill to her work with the Calgary school board. She was an avid volunteer, spending countless hours volunteering with the Salvation Army while maintaining a steady work schedule. She continued to work hard all her life, and retirement never slowed her down. Even at 92, she remained active and involved, serving with New Life Church, and helping in her neighbourhood. Whether gardening for friends in the summer or shoveling walks in the winter, Judy could always be found lending a hand wherever it was needed.
Her faith was at the center of her life. Judy had a deep love of God and the scriptures, and she devoted herself to the church with sincerity and joy. She gave her time generously, volunteered faithfully, and shared her voice in the church choir. Her friendships and her community were deeply important to her, and she built lasting connections through her kindness, steadiness, and willingness to care for those around her.
Music was another of Judy’s great gifts and great joys. A self-taught musician, she was especially known for her remarkable accordion playing, but her talents reached far beyond one instrument. She could play nearly any string instrument she picked up, from bass and acoustic guitar to banjo and ukulele, and she was even planning to add the fiddle to that list. Music was one of the ways she nourished the soul, both her own and that of those fortunate enough to hear her play.
Judy will be remembered as a loving daughter, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-aunt, and great-great-grandmother. She was also a beloved friend to many and a caretaker to all those around her. Her life was an example of resilience, devotion, generosity, and quiet strength.
She is lovingly remembered by her son, Sonny Michaud; Sherri Citkowski; by Bonnie Bushfield; Mona Citkowski, her 4 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and her 2 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert Lacquement; her daughter, Pauline Michaud; her son, Ronnie Michaud; her parents, Agnes and Mike Citkowski; her brothers, John Citkowski and Mike Citkowski; and her sister, Mary Sharuga.
May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her, and may the example of her faith, kindness, and tireless care for others continue to inspire all whose lives she touched.
